During this workshop, Executive Director David Ibsen will provide an introduction followed by presentations from CEP’s Dr. Juncal Fernandez-Garayzabal and Beyond Conflict’s Dr. Vivian Khedari DePierro. The two will give attendees a brief overview of the rationale behind the 4R Network and its workings as well as provide insight into how the 4R Network will advance evidence-based mechanisms that can support the work of academics and practitioners working in the rehabilitation and reintegration space.

Speaker: Mitch Silber – Advisory Board Member, CEP; former Director of Intelligence at NYPD

Mitch Silber will discuss how systematically collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data through a community of practice could improve the effectiveness of the post-9/11 intelligence architecture against the domestic violent extremist threat.

Speaker: Prof. Ian Acheson – Senior Advisor, CEP

Professor Ian Acheson will use his years of translatable experience and expertise in the tactical and strategic management of violent extremism in U.K. correctional and community settings to deliver a training that covers monitoring in the penitentiary system and how it can serve as a mechanism to protect human rights of vulnerable prison populations. 

Speaker: Alexander Ritzmann – Senior Advisor, CEP

Alexander Ritzmann will pull from his experience of co-chairing the European Commission’s Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN)’s Communication and Narratives (C&N) Working Group and his experience in co-developing the GAMMMA+ model for effective alternative and counter narratives to provide a comprehensive overview of the key elements needed when setting up effective counter/alternative-narrative campaigns, especially when it comes to building the capacity of those tasked with supervising extremist offenders in-prison and/or in-community so as to reduce recidivism.
